The stone heart was the fear of the surgeon in the early days of open heart surgery. This form of ischemia and reperfusion injury plays also a role in modern interventional cardiology. This book gives insight in the knowledge gathered on this subject several years ago. This experience has been made available, because nowadays with the advent of gene expression and stem cell therapy this background has to be considered since many events occur in the venous circulation opening a complex cascade of events leading to completely different exits.
