General Information about CoronarySinus.com

Coronary heart disease, a multifactorial disease best treatable by prophylactic means, remains the most common cause of death in the civilized countries. In spite of improvements in diagnosis and therapies, salvage of acute jeopardised myocardium in presence of acute myocardial infarction remains the challenge in the new millenium. In the last 30 years evidence has been gathered that the free access to ischemic myocardium via the coronary sinus has the potential to reduce the sequelae of acute coronary syndromes. After a hiatus of the interest in coronary sinus interventions, new understanding of the disease process as well as the mode of action of some of the procedures inducing myocardial salvage convinced us to relaunch the SOCIETY OF CORONARY SINUS INTERVENTIONS.

The relaunch of the Society became necessary since the wealth of information on coronary sinus interventions and the experience in the anatomy and pathophysiology of the coronary venous system seems to have been lost over time. New interventions like heart failure management by multisite pacing or percutaneous in situ coronary venous arterialisation as well as new insight in stem cell research again draw the spotlight to the coronary venous route and the attention to the scientific evidence gathered years ago.

We therefore gathered the published literature and made it available via this site. Search via Coronary Sinus Archive will give access to the wealth of information on the coronary venous system since 1970. Furthermore we reprinted material published as proceedings of symposia held by the society in the so-called Coronary Sinus Library.

We present the material in a new format, collecting the original contributions according to their issues, giving credit to the former authors. These contributions appear in the same format as in the chapters of the original books by Steinkopff which are unavailable today. To date 6 volumes of the coronary sinus library have been reprinted and can be purchased as whole series or as special volume. It is intended that upcoming symposia will be published in the same format. In addition users interested in certain articles can purchase them in a PDF format.

You may download for free a screensaver with pictures of the coronary venous anatomy and microcirculation made available by M. Tschabitscher, v. M. Lüdinghausen, Lametgschwandtner and W. Mohl.

The Society is represented by leading researchers in the field of myocardial protection, coronary sinus interventions and heart failure management by multisite pacing and interventional cardiology. Everybody with substantial interest and experience in coronary sinus research who is interested in serving as officer of the Society can contact the Society via this site.
